Alexandre Cailler, grandson of Francois-Louis Cailler, ran the family business for three generations.

He left Vevey and the factory of his ancestors to open a new chocolate factory in Broc in 1898. He chose this village in Gruyère to have acces to fresh milk, the main ingredient in his milk chocolate. Even today, Cailler chocolate is still made exclusively in the Broc factory. And just like in Alexandre Cailler's time, the fresh milk from the Swiss Alps comes from about 1500 cows grazing within a 30 km radius of the factory. The milk used for production in Broc proudly carries the label  ‘IP Suisse“.

In 1911, Peter & Kohler joined forces with Alexandre Cailler to form ‘ Peter, Cailler, Kohler, Chocolat Suisse S.A. ’, also known as PCK

The three chocolate pioneers decided that together they are stronger in selling the best Swiss milk chocolate worldwide. The merger bears fruit. The chocolate ‘ Peter, Cailler, Kohler Suisse S.A. ‘ will soon be responsible for 50% of Swiss chocolate exports.

In 1929, Peter Cailler Kohler merged with the Nestlé Group to form NPCK.

An expected and successful alliance between a still family-owned company (PCK) and an international oriented structure (Nestlé & Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Co.).

On 4 November 1919, Daniel Peter passed away at the age of 84.

The Gala Peter brand no longer present on store shelves, but the name of its inventor, and above all his ingenious recipe, revolutionised the chocolate industry. His legacy endures, ensuring the excellent reputation of Swiss chocolate worldwide.

And Cailler today?

The secret of milk chocolate, invented by Daniel Peter and perfected by Alexandre Cailler, is still condensed milk, which makes it incredibly melting. Cailler is the only chocolate manufacturer to use condensed milk in its creations. Milk chocolate is the basis of many of our products. It exist not only in the form of highly appreciated bars, but also coats our famous Branches Cailler and many of our fine pralines. We always create our innovations with passion and expertise, just like Daniel Peter did in his day.
